Private School Affidavit

Independent Homeschooling

  • This is one of the ways to legally homeschool in CA.

  • If you are in a charter school or PSP, you do not need to file a PSA.

  • It is free.

  • Families do not get any financial assistance

  • This creates a private school in your home for educating your own children

  • You do not need to file if your children are under 6 years old

  • Your school is established when you say so

  • Your school is legal when you put together the following paperwork:

  1. Enrollment letter

  2. Course of study

  3. Teacher qualifications

  4. Immunization records

  5. Attendance record

  • It is recommended to keep your paperwork in an easily accessible binder

  • You are required to notify the state about your school by filing an online form each year between October 1-October 15. If your school is established after 10/15, you may file at any time.

  • You are covered by private school regulations.

  • There are no state requirements for standards, curriculum, or testing.

  • There are no state requirements for teacher qualifications, number of days for schooling or number of hours of each day for school

  • No one is authorized to routinely check paperwork
